New Shop

This week, I signed a lease on a building in down town Bundaberg. Across the road from the Bundaberg river and a few doors down from both a boating shop and the ANZAC pool, it’s the perfect location for a dive operation. Well, it will be once the pool is finished renovations. Still, it’s an excellent place to be.

Originally, my plan for the shop was to run everything out of a shed and office at home. Customer service would be entirely provided by driving to you. Looking into getting a shipping container or shed for the back yard turned out to be a very expensive proposition. The container would cost somewhere between $15,000 and $20,000 (once fitted out to be a workspace) and then there’d be site costs to the tune of another $5,000 or so. Turns out there’s basically no daylight between buying a shipping container and buying a shed. I simply had better ways to spend the money.

So, I went on the hunt for a place to lease where I could reasonably run an air compressor. After a few weeks of searching, I came across the site on Quay St. It’s pretty much perfect. There’s a shop front, which is nice and clean for doing maintenance work in and then there’s a garage out the back which can be used for the compressor and as a wet area.

The lease was signed on Wednesday, keys picked up Thursday and power turned on Friday. I’m going to spend the next week or two getting gear to the shop and setting up. Once we have the compressor installed and enough equipment we can teach with (a story for another time), we’ll be open for classes and maintenance.

I still plan on being a coaching service that is based around customer convenience. I’ll be offering service to your house or other convenient location. Now that I have a shop, that will be another option for those who prefer it.
